Myopia

Myopia is one of the most common visual defects worldwide. It manifests as difficulty seeing distant objects clearly, while near vision usually remains sharp. This refractive error occurs when the eyeball is longer than usual or when the curvature of the cornea is too pronounced. As a result, light rays entering the eye focus in front of the retina instead of directly on it, creating a blurred image at a distance.

Myopia Treatment

One of the most effective and safest solutions for correcting myopia is laser refractive surgery, an advanced procedure that reshapes the cornea with great precision. By modifying its curvature, light is focused correctly on the retina, significantly improving distance vision. The procedure is performed under topical anaesthesia (in the form of drops) and visual recovery is usually very rapid, allowing the patient to resume their normal activities in a short time.

Hyperopia

Hyperopia is a refractive error characterised by difficulty focusing clearly on nearby objects. In cases where the degree of hyperopia increases, distance vision may also be affected. The main cause of hyperopia is an eye that is shorter than normal or a cornea with insufficient curvature. As a result, light rays entering the eye focus behind the retina instead of directly on it, creating a blurred image.

Hyperopia Treatment

Laser refractive surgery offers an effective solution for correcting long-sightedness. This procedure involves modifying the curvature of the cornea to ensure that light rays focus correctly on the retina, resulting in a significant improvement in vision at all distances. It is a quick, safe and minimally invasive procedure, performed under topical anaesthetic drops, with generally rapid visual recovery.

Astigmatism

Astigmatism is a refractive error that causes blurred or distorted vision, both near and far, leading to persistent visual discomfort and difficulty focusing clearly. This condition occurs when the cornea is irregularly shaped, more like a rugby ball than a perfect sphere. This uneven curvature causes light rays to focus on multiple points on the retina, rather than converging on a single point, resulting in a distorted or blurred image.

Astigmatism Treatment

Laser refractive surgery corrects astigmatism by reshaping the surface of the cornea, regularising its curvature so that light rays focus properly on the retina. This results in clearer, sharper vision. It is a safe and effective technique, performed with high-precision technology and rapid visual recovery.

Presbyopia

Presbyopia, also known as eyestrain, is a visual disorder that manifests itself as a progressive difficulty in focusing on nearby objects. It usually appears naturally from the age of 40 or 45 as part of the eye ageing process. It is a universal condition that affects, to a greater or lesser extent, all people, regardless of whether they have had previous visual problems. The main cause of presbyopia is the loss of elasticity in the crystalline lens, the eye’s natural lens, which over time loses its ability to focus properly at different distances. This loss of accommodation makes everyday tasks such as reading, using a mobile phone or seeing clearly up close difficult, forcing people to rely on glasses for reading or close-up work.

Presbyopia Treatment

Thanks to advances in ophthalmic surgery, it is now possible to correct presbyopia using safe and effective techniques. One such technique is PresbyQuick, a state-of-the-art laser procedure that modifies the curvature of the cornea to restore the ability to focus both near and far. This treatment can significantly reduce dependence on glasses for reading and other everyday tasks, offering a significant improvement in the quality of life for many patients.
